Remove Reddit Post: Step-by-Step Directions

A person uses a laptop with a smartphone beside them showing the Reddit logo. Text overlay reads, "How to Remove Reddit Post: Step-by-Step Directions." The OnlineReputation.com logo is subtly placed in the corner, guiding users through managing their online presence.

These remove Reddit post directions can help you delete a post you made using your Reddit account or flag posts made by other Redditors.

Reddit is a place you can go to read and comment about — well — anything. There are subreddits (i.e., Reddit communities) that revolve around practically any topic you can think of, including humor, video games, movies, DIY crafting, books, tech gadgets and more.

Plus, there are subreddits for more niche topics like specific TV shows, writing prompts, budget-friendly food, job searching, etc. And if you can’t find a subreddit for a certain topic, chances are you can Google [keyword or phrase] + reddit and at least find a thread or lengthy comment about it.

Unfortunately, for active Reddit posters — meaning people who create Reddit posts or add comments to existing Reddit posts — it’s not uncommon to regret putting up content once it’s too late. Saying something in the heat of the moment or posting a comment without fact-checking can lead to trouble with the rest of the community. It can also lead to reputational damage for you or your business if the content goes viral enough.

Plus, even if you’re not actually engaging on Reddit, finding negative content about you or your business is also cause for concern.

Luckily, it’s very easy to remove your own content. When it comes to getting someone else’s post taken down, the process is a bit trickier, but there are still steps you can take.

In this article, we’ll go over the steps needed to remove your own Reddit post or request that someone else’s content be reviewed by a moderator.

How To Remove Someone Else’s Reddit Post

While you have a lot of control over the content you post using your Reddit account, you can’t so easily remove someone else’s Reddit post. However, you can report a post that violates the subreddit guidelines or is offensive for a number of other reasons and hope that a moderator opts to take it down.

1. Find the post you want removed.

Navigate to the post you want removed from Reddit. You’ll flag the post directly from the post itself.

2. Start the report.

Click the three-dot menu bottom on the top right of the post. Select the Report option from the dropdown menu.

There are a number of reasons to want a post removed on Reddit. In this window, you’ll select your reason for flagging it. There are several options, including:

  • Breaks the subreddit’s rules

  • Harassment or threats of violence
  • Hate speech
  • Personal information is shared
  • Spam

Pick the option that best matches your reason for wanting the post removed. If you’re unsure what one of the options means, clicking it will show a short description at the bottom of the window.
